If you change the principles you live by, you will change your world.
It is amazing how many people you meet who are crying out for some real purpose and destiny in their lives. It is even more amazing though how many of these people continue to do the same things day in and day out, yet expect to have better results than before.
I am reminded in such cases of some of the sayings of the American psychologist and philosopher William James. Among his many brilliant observations was this one: “The greatest revolution of our generation is the discovery that human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives.”Equally apt, he also said: “A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices”.
We have dealt with the power and the need for positive thinking so I make no apology for saying it cannot be over - emphasized. If you want better results in what you do, whether it is with your day or with your life, then you have to change for the better the process of your doing and the focus of your intentions. It was Herbert Swope, a much quoted editor, who coined this saying: “I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure – try to please everyone.”
So, you have to open yourself to changing the way you see things and what you believe in. You have to change wrong thinking and press into positive thoughts.
How often aren’t our thought processes automatically negative? For example, if someone says: “If you don’t mind, would you pass the salt?” does it ring a bell with you.? Put it simply – and positively – “Please pass the salt.”
I know someone, more than one person in fact, who when spoken to and they don’t quite catch what was said, respond with: “What’s wrong?” Probably nothing, but it is so normal and human to assume the negative, isn’t it?
The Bible says: (Phi 4:8) “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is fair, whatever is pure, whatever is acceptable, whatever is commendable, if there is anything of excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy, keep thinking about these things.”
Biblically we are urged to accentuate the positive and to eliminate the negative, for it is possible to see, read and hear both negative and positive contexts in the same message.
Nicolo Machiavelli once said: “There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct or more uncertain of its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things.”
Yet the test of success is the creation of positive change. Here are some examples of right beliefs which, when they have replaced wrong beliefs, will change the way you say and do things and start you on a process of achieving successful results.
You can renew your mind. You can change your belief values and broaden your knowledge so that your decisions will impact your emotions and positively effect your actions, in the name of Christ.
